Our curriculum intent is to provide a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum that ignites pupils’ love of learning and develops the whole child to be a respectful citizen who can make informed choices that contribute positively to society.
Our Quality of Education Policy demonstrates how this intent is implemented and monitored to gain the best outcomes for our pupils, by outlining:
- the academy’s vision that pupils come first
- the philosophy that brain-based learning underpins progress of pupils
- the Teaching and Learning non-negotiables; that promote a consistent whole-school approach to pupils’ learning
- the Quality Assurance model that will be used consistently across the academy to monitor the impact of quality first teaching and how this informs the CPD calendar
- the importance of live marking to motivate and accelerate progress
- the significance of Literacy and Numeracy to support pupils to succeed in life
- expectations for each of the stakeholders in the school to provide an ambitious curriculum through quality first teaching
Our curriculum delivers vital subject knowledge and skills, which are complemented by a raft of enrichment activities that broaden and extend the pupil experience.
The curriculum is designed to give all pupils the opportunity to develop as enquiring individuals who feel valued and respected, so that they, in turn, learn to value those around them. Equality of opportunity is a key principle in the design of our curriculum model, and we fully support the entitlement that pupils have to study the English Baccalaureate.
We operate a 3:2 curriculum model with three years assigned for the delivery of our Year 7, 8 and 9 programmes of study. These programmes of study have been carefully crafted to ensure that they go beyond the requirements set out by the National Curriculum.
At the end of Year 9, pupils opt for subjects that they will study in Years 10 and 11 and they complete those subjects by the end of Year 11. Our highly flexible two-year curriculum delivered in Years 10 and 11 allows us to create personalised guided pathways for our pupils.
The curriculum at Longfield is personalised to meet the needs of all learners. Flexibility in the curriculum allows for adaptations to be made that are responsive to the needs of both individuals and groups of pupils as they progress through our academy.
We ensure that our curriculum covers wider personal development and promotes positive attitudes to learning which underpins our school culture and prepares pupils for life in modern Britain through the teaching of responsibility, respect, tolerance and acceptance in everything we do.
