Above & Beyond: Rising Stars

Welcome to the ‘Above and Beyond: Rising Stars’ section of our website.

‘Rising Stars’ is the KS2 branch of our school ‘Above and Beyond’ programme. This programme encourages independent learning and promotes academic progress by using Retrieval Strategies to help pupil know more and remember more.

Please watch the ‘How to… complete Read and Watch lists’ video to find out how to complete and submit pupil work while you are in Year 5 and Year 6, and how you can receive rewards for this! (Please note – parental consent is required for us to showcase work on our website and social media accounts.)

Every department’s ‘Read and Watch list’ can be found on the bookcase in their virtual classrooms.

To help you, there is a ‘How to…’ guide to explain Retrieval Strategies that explains the rationale behind our ‘Above and Beyond’ programme, and a ‘How to…’ guide to Thinking Maps which demonstrates how and when to use each of our downloadable templates.

If you require any support or guidance on how to join our ‘Rising Stars’, please contact Miss Metcalfe at transition@longfield.swiftacademies.org.uk, or via school reception on (01325) 380815

At Longfield Academy, we understand the value of homework. Our homework program is designed to support pupils to retrieve knowledge and transfer this to long-term memory.

For English, Maths and Science you will be set homework once a week. For all other subjects (e.g. History, RE and Art…) homework will be set once a half-term.

You will receive a timetable for homework when you start Longfield. Homework clubs and support are available in school, and you can access the Library to complete homework both before and after school and at lunchtime.

We also reward and celebrate excellent work, progress and effort through our ‘Star of the Week’ and ‘Showcase Time’ programmes. You can read about these in the above booklet.

If you have any further questions regarding homework, please email: transition@longfield.swiftacademies.org.uk
